UCO Crowns Five Champs, Takes Jet Invitational Title

WICHITA, Kan. (Dec. 9) – No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma crowned five individual champions and rolled to the team title at the Jet Invitational here Sunday.

Casy Rowell (133), Jordan Basks (149), Chris Watson (165), Kelly Henderson (174) and Cody Dauphin (285) claimed gold medals for the Bronchos, while 184 Tanner Keck took second, 157 Cory Dauphin third, 125 Ryan Brooks fourth and 197 Znick Ferrell fourth.

UCO finished with 113 points to easily outdistance runner-up Fort Hays State (89.5) in the 12-team event. The Bronchos racked up 12 bonus-point wins on the day, including eight falls.

“We had a pretty good day and had a lot of positive things happen,” UCO coach David James said. “We ended our first semester schedule on a good note and got some things moving our way. We wrestled hard and won some tough matches today, which was really good to see.”

Rowell picked up his second tournament title of the season in dominating fashion, capped by a 16-0 technical fall in the finals. Basks earned tournament Outstanding Wrestler honors after clipping Fort Hays State's No. 8-ranked Mitchell Means 3-2 in the title bout.

Watson topped Oklahoma City's Zach Skates 6-2 for the gold medal, while Henderson and Cody Dauphin both earned 3-2 finals wins. Dauphin, who missed the first month of the season to injury, won his second straight title and remained unbeaten (9-0).

UCO doesn't return to action until going to the NWCA Division II National Dual sin Springfield, Ill. Jan. 12-13.
