LAS VEGAS (Dec. 16) –
Britney Morgan hit two clutch 3-pointers down the stretch and Central Oklahoma turned back Central Washington 77-66 here Friday afternoon on the second day of the Great Western Shootout.

Both Morgan treys were corner shots, the first one coming with 2:20 remaining to give the Bronchos a 70-60 lead and the second one at the 1:42 mark after a CWU miss that made it 73-60 and sealed the win.

The Bronchos improved to 9-4 in bouncing back from Thursday's 69-53 loss to Western Washington, losing leading scorer Paiten Taylor to a season-ending knee injury in the process.

“It was a good win for us and I thought we played really hard today,” head coach Guy Hardaker said.  “We had some girls step up and give us some big minutes when we really needed it.”

Morgan finished with a team-high 18 points, with UCO also getting 15 points and seven rebounds from Courtney HarperHeather Davis made 3-of-4 shots from long range in adding nine points, while Savannah Hamilton and Jill Bryan both had eight-point, eight-rebound outings.

Autumn Huffman had the game-deciding performance off the bench for the Bronchos, scoring a career-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds and a blocked shot.  The sophomore forward had eight of those points during a second-half stretch when UCO took control of the game.

UCO led 34-31 at halftime and went up 43-36 on a Harper layup three minutes into the second half, but the Wildcats rallied to tie it at 43 with 16:10 left to play.  It was tied again at 47 when Huffman's layup at the 12:15 mark put the Bronchos on top to stay.

Davis' 3-pointer and two Huffman free throws pushed the lead to 54-47 and it was a nine-point advantage at 61-52 when Huffman converted a fast-break layup off an assist from Bryan.

CWU came back with a 3-pointer to make it 61-55, but Hamilton scored back-to-back inside goals to push the lead to 10 (65-55) and Morgan's late treys made sure the Bronchos stayed in front.

Morgan drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key 25 seconds into the game and followed a CWU miss with a driving layup to stake the Bronchos to a quick 5-0 lead and UCO never trailed.

It was tied at 7-all before Harper's fast-break layup off a Morgan feed ignited an 8-0 run that made it 15-7 and it was still an eight-point advantage at 18-10 when Chelsi Dennis nailed a trey from the corner at the 10:52 mark.

The Wildcats came back to tie it again at 24 and 31 before Davis's 3-pointer from the wing with four seconds left gave UCO its 34-31 edge at the break.
