UCO Adds Four

EDMOND (April 27) – Three-time defending Lone Star Conference North Division champion Central Oklahoma has added four state prospects to the program, including three junior college transfers.

Set to join the Bronchos for the 2010-11 season is Larry Cunningham of Carl Albert High School along with June Carter of Murray State College, Jarrod McDaniel of Seminole State College and Tony Ross of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

“All four of these guys are great athletes who can defend and rebound,” UCO coach Terry Evans said.   “They will really give us a boost next year and we're excited to have them join the program.”

Cunningham, a 6-foot-6 forward, earned All-State honors as a senior last year after averaging 17.4 points and 7.7 rebounds a game for the Titans while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range.

“Larry is long and athletic and he can really shoot,” Evans said.

Carter was an All-Stater who played on two state championship teams at Millwood High School before spending the past two years at Murray State.  The 6-7 junior-to-be averaged 13.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots a game in 2009-10 while shooting 80 percent from the free throw line.

“June can score inside and out and he's also a great defender with his ability to block shots and rebound,” Evans said.

McDaniel played at Midwest City High School for current UCO assistant coach Rodney Dindy and then spent a year as a back-up at Division I Stephen F. Austin before going to Seminole last year.  The 5-9 guard led the Trojans to a 20-11 record, averaging 6.2 points, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals a game.

“Jarrod is a great playmaker and was the best point guard in the Oklahoma junior college ranks last year,” Evans said. “He's a leader.”

Ross, a 6-7 forward, played at Tulsa Union High School before spending two injury-plagued seasons at NEO.  He averaged 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds a game last season.

“Tony is a strong post defender and rebounder with good face-up skills,” Evans said.  “He has a great upside.”

The Bronchos have six lettermen, including three starters, and three redshirts coming back from last year's 22-7 team that won a third straight LSC North title and went to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the third consecutive time.
