DURANT, Okla. (March 27) – Megan Bentley's three-run triple keyed a nine-run inning that carried Central Oklahoma past Abilene Christian as the Bronchos split two games on the second day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament here Saturday.
The fourth-inning uprising against the Wildcats paved the way to a 9-5 victory before UCO ended the day with an 11-0 run-rule loss to No. 2-ranked Angelo State. The Bronchos, now 3-1 in the tournament and 18-10 on the year, end the three-day event Sunday with games against Texas Woman's and West Texas A&M.
“We swung the bats well against Abilene and got a good win there, but Angelo really took it to us,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said. “It's been a pretty good weekend so far, but we need to come out tomorrow ready to go.”
The Bronchos trailed 1-0 entering the top of the fourth against ACU before busting the game open, parading 14 batters to the plate in pushing across nine runs on eight hits and three errors.
Bentley had the big blow with her bases-loaded three-bagger to the right-center field gap, while UCO also got a run-scoring single from Brittany Geter – her second hit of the inning – along with an RBI fielder's choice from Kayce Raines and a sacrifice fly from Kacie Edwards.
The Wildcats tired to get close with single runs in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth, but it wasn't nearly enough.
Everybody in the UCO lineup got at least one hit, with Kelsey Tiger, Brittany Weaver and Geter each picking up two. Rachael Steverson earned the pitching win.
Angelo State took control early in the second contest, scoring twice in the bottom of the first and pulling away from there en route to ending the game after five innings.
