ALAMOSA, Colo. (Jan. 21) – Central Oklahoma lost four of the first five matches to fall into a big hole and couldn't recover as the No. 11-ranked Bronchos dropped a 26-15 decision to No. 14 Adams State here Thursday night.

The Grizzlies picked up bonus points in two of those early matches with a fall and technical fall in seizing a 17-3 lead and added another fall at 197 pounds to clinch the dual.

The Bronchos fell to 5-5 with the loss and are right back in action again Friday afternoon, traveling to Las Vegas, N.M. to take on New Mexico Highlands at 1 p.m. (Oklahoma time).

“I figured we had to win three of the first four weights and when we lost two of those it really put us in a bind,” said UCO coach David James, who was without two injured starters. “You can't afford to give up bonus points when you're looking at a dual that can go either way and Adams did that at three weights.”

The Bronchos got wins from 133 Trison Graham, 165 Derrick Adkins, 174 Cody Rowell and heavyweight Jarrett Edison, who bumped up from 197 to replace injured All-American and No. 3-ranked Dustin Finn.

No. 8-ranked Casy Rowell fell to defending national champion and third-rated Arsenia Barksdale 7-3 in the opening match at 125, but Graham prevailed 4-1 in the next bout to tie the dual 3-3.

The Grizzlies then got a technical fall from No. 1 Josh Hensley at 141, a come-from-behind 10-5 upset from Daniel Kelley over sixth-rated Colby Robinson at 149 and a fall at 157 from No. 4 Joey Deaguero to go up 17-3.

Adkins had an easy 6-1 triumph at 165 and Cody Rowell followed with a forfeit at 174 to pull UCO within 17-12, but Torben Walters edged Tanner Keck 2-0 at 184 and fourth-ranked Kyle Sand scored a first-period pin at 197 to settle it.

Edison ended the dual with a 5-3 win in his first match of the year at heavyweight.
