EDMOND (Jan. 16) –
Tyler Phillips scored 13 points in a 25-7 run that turned an eight-point deficit into a double-digit lead and sparked Central Oklahoma to a runaway 94-62 Lone Star Conference North Division rout of Southeastern Oklahoma Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

It was the ninth consecutive win – and the fifth straight by at least 16 points -- for the two-time defending North Division champion Bronchos, who improved to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

UCO was down 22-14 midway through the first half when Phillips ignited the game-turning spurt with 10 straight points, hitting two free throws, back-to-back 3-pointers and a layup.

Eric Cazenave tossed in a pair of treys during the run and Phillips ended it with another long-distance dagger from the corner to give the Bronchos a 39-29 lead with 1:42 left in the half.  UCO went on to a 45-31 halftime lead and the Savage Storm got no closer than 13 in the final 20 minutes.

“We got off to a sluggish start, but then Tyler really gave us a big boost and we played pretty well for a long stretch,” UCO coach Terry Evans said.  “Everybody's contributing and things are going our way right now.”

The Bronchos shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the field, the third straight game they've hit at least 54 percent of their field goals, and all 11 players in uniform scored.

Phillips led the way with 19 points, hitting 6-of-9 shots with the three treys.   Dauntae Williams had 16 points, six assists and three steals, while Cazenave finished with 15 points, a career-high seven steals – the second-most in school history – and four assists.

UCO also got 12 points from Chris Rhymes and 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from Brent Friday.

Cazenave's steal and layup gave the Bronchos a 2-0 lead just 14 seconds into the contest, but UCO made just six of its first 16 shots in falling into the 22-14 hole.  Phillips' hot hand quickly got the Bronchos back in the lead and another Cazenave steal and layup stretched the advantage to 14 (45-31) at the break.

SOSU tried to stay in the game in the second half and was within 13 (52-39) in the opening minutes, but a 7-1 run that featured layups by Cazenave and Shane Carroll and a 3-pointer by Williams made it 59-40 and UCO pulled steadily away from there.

The Bronchos resume LSC North Division play Wednesday, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma at 8 p.m.
