RINGWOOD, Australia (July 27) -- Former Central Oklahoma star Sam Belt put together another dominating performance in leading the Ringwood Hawks to the Big V Australian Basketball League regular-season championship over the weekend.
The 6-foot-5 forward made seven 3-pointers in scoring 42 points and added 15 rebounds to gain league Player of the Week honors as the Hawks routed Latrobe City 124-107 in the regular-season finale. The two teams meet again this week for a best-of-three series in the semifinals of the playoffs.
“That game was a good chance to get a feel for what we can expect next week.” Belt said after the win over Latrobe City. “Next week will have a different intensity level but it was good to get a good win and keep our momentum.”
Belt, the lone import on the Ringwood team, averaged 28.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game in the regular season.
The Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Year and a consensus All-American as a senior at UCO, Belt led the Bronchos to a school-record 28-6 record and an Elite Eight berth in 2007-08.
