STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Dec. 1) – Cold-shooting Central Oklahoma never recovered after falling in a big hole in the opening minutes and unbeaten Tarleton State went on to hand the No. 19-ranked Bronchos a stunning 85-55 setback here Tuesday night.
The TexAnns (6-0) bolted to an 11-0 lead three minutes into the contest and led by 10 (35-25) at intermission, with UCO unable to mount any sort of comeback in the final 20 minutes in falling to 3-2 on the season.
The Bronchos shot a paltry 22.4 percent (13-of-58) from the field, including 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from 3-point range, and were outrebounded 57-36.
“We played awful and Tarleton just took it to us right from the start,” UCO coach Guy Hardaker said. “We're just going to have to put this game behind us and get ready for Thursday.”
The Bronchos, who play their first 10 games on the road this season, continue Lone Star Conference crossover play Thursday with a 6 p.m. contest at Midwestern State.
Ashley Beckley, Jordan Stark and Alyssa Fuxa scored 10 points apiece to lead UCO, but that threesome was a combined 7-of-33 from the field.
Tarleton hit a pair of 3-pointers en route to their quick 11-0 lead, though the Bronchos rebounded to get within three at 15-12 on two Fuxa free throws with 9:37 left in the half. It was a five-point deficit at 28-23 at the 4:14 mark after two more Fuxa foul shots, but the TexAnns finished the half with a 7-2 run to go up 35-25 at the break.
That became a 22-point Tarleton lead at 50-28 four minutes into the second half and UCO got no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
