KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 3) -- Eric Cazenave scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead four players in double figures and No. 8-ranked Central Oklahoma overcame a nine-point halftime deficit in rallying past Texas A&M-Kingsville 78-68 here Saturday.
The Bronchos trailed 35-26 at intermission, but limited TAMUK to 39-percent shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes and outscored the Javelinas 52-33 in pulling out the victory in improving to 11-2.
“We played awful in the first half and got ourselves in a hole, but we didn't panic and did a nice job coming back,” UCO coach Terry Evans said. “We had some guys step up in the second half and we got a good road win.”
Cazenave was 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the second half en route his 22-point outing while adding six rebounds.
Michael Sosanya was big off the bench with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and a 6-of-7 effort from the line, while Lance Harper had 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and David Thomas 12 points and four assists.
Harper and Sosanya scored five points apiece as UCO opened the second half with a 13-4 run to get even at 39-all. It was tied five more times in the next 10 minutes before Cazenave gave the Bronchos the lead for good at 54-53 on a pair of free throws with 7:28 left to play.
UCO pulled away at the line and ended up making 18-of-19 foul shots (94.7 percent) in the second half.
The Bronchos return to action Thursday, hosting Abilene Christian at 4 p.m. in a game originally scheduled for 8 p.m.
