UCO Finishes Third Behind Record Day In Kansas

Bronchos Tied Low Team Round On Day 2 Of MIAA Preview

ANDOVER, Kan. – Central Oklahoma surged up the leaderboard thanks to a record-setting final round in the MIAA Preview Tuesday at Terradyne Country Club, where the Bronchos finished third place in the season-opening tournament.

UCO shot a 12-over-par 580 in the 36-hole event. The even-par 284 on Tuesday was not only the best round of any team in the field, but it tied the school record for lowest team score in program history. The 36-hole 580 is the second-best mark in school history.

"Today was a really good day for our team," UCO head women's coach Michael Bond said. "We knew we had to play better than we did on Monday and we accomplished that. While we would have liked to win the tournament, third is good and I think the performance on Tuesday is something that will go along way for us this season. It will build a lot of confidence."

Southwestern Oklahoma State won the team event with a 574 (287-287). Wayne State finished one shot in front of the Bronchos with a 579 (288-291). Nebraska Kearney (583) and Washburn (584) rounded out the top five.

Scarlet Sturch tied for sixth place to lead the Bronchos. She shot a 1-over-par 143 in the tournament, posting a 1-over 72 on Monday before Tuesday's even-par 71. Newcomer Ivanna Gerez was two shots back tied for 10th place. She shot a 3-over-par 145 with rounds of 78 & 67. Gerez entered the UCO record book herself with Tuesday's final round. The 67 is tied for the third lowest score for a single round in school history.

Layne Ailshie and Reagan Plank both finished tied for 15th with a 4-over 146. Ailshie started with a 5-over 76 on Monday and shot 1-under (70) on Tuesday. Plank filed the opposite, with a 1-under-par 70 on Monday and a 5-over 76 in Tuesday's final round.

Estela Castillo also competed and finished 68th with a 160 (78-82).

Sturch started her day on No. 6 and made five consecutive par putts to begin her final round. She countered three bogeys with three birdies on the back nine and then wrapped up the round with a bogey-birdie finish to remain even-par for the day.

Gerez started on No. 9 with a par then began the back nine with six straight pars. She bogeyed the Par 4 16th and that would be her only blemish of the day. She got that stroke back with a birdie on No. 18, then played the eight remaining holes on the front nine 4-under to finish with a 67. Gerez sank birdie putts on holes 3, 4, 5, 8, and 18.

Ailshie started on No. 7 and parred the Par 4 hole, then sank back-to-back birdie putts to get to 2-under heading to the back nine. There she sank eight par putts around a bogey on No. 12, then finished the front nine with six more par putts. Ailshie made 15 par putts on the day, including 12 consecutive pars to finish the tournament.

Plank shot 1-under par on Monday, playing in the lineup for the first time. The second-year player from Owasso came back with a 5-over on Tuesday. She birdied No. 12 and made 12 total pars, but had four bogeys and a double.

Central Oklahoma's 2026-27 season is underway with the conclusion of the first tournament of the year. The Bronchos will head to Dallas, Texas next week for the DBU Classic at Dallas Athletic Club. UCO is hosting the annual Grace Shin Invitational Oct. 5-6 at Golf Club of Edmond and will play two more October events to wrap up the fall portion of the schedule.
