Regional Preview Up Next For UCO

Bronchos Competing In Three-Day Tournament In Nebraska

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma is set to tee off in the Regional Preview at Meadowlark Golf Club Sunday morning with the 54-hole tournament wrapping up Tuesday.

The University of Nebraska Kearney is hosting the NCAA Central Region Championships in May at Meadowlark. A 10 a.m. shotgun start gets the tournament underway Sunday morning.

Layne Ailshie, Estela Castillo, Scarlet Sturch, Ivanna Gerez, and Reagan Plank make up the five-person lineup for the Bronchos. UCO will tee off on holes 1-3 Sunday morning.

UCO is playing five consecutive weeks of fall tournaments. This week is the fourth in that stretch. The Bronchos have finished third, 14th, and fourth in three previous tournaments. UCO also tied the school record with an even-par 284 in the second round of the MIAA Preview in Kansas last month.

Ailshie enters this week with a 76.0 stroke average in seven rounds played. She has a season-low of 1-under 70 and also has an even-par 71 and a 1-over 72 on her record this fall. Ailshie led the Bronchos with a fifth-place finish at UCO's Grace Shin Invitational last week in Edmond.

Castillo had her best tournament of the season last week at home in Edmond. She finished 11th. Castillo has an 80.1 scoring average and her first five rounds were uncharacteristically above her career 75.0 scoring average. Last week in Edmond, Castillo posted a 3-over 74 and an even-par 71 to get back on track.

Sturch got her senior season off to a great start with a sixth-place finish in the MIAA Preview. She posted a 1-over 72 and an even-par 71 in Kansas. Sturch has a 76.8 scoring average entering this week's tournament in Nebraska.

Gerez, who transferred to UCO this fall from Redlands Community College, has a 78.2 scoring average in seven rounds played. The junior has a low score of 4-under 67 in her second round of the season.

Plank, a redshirt freshman, has a 78.1 scoring average this season. She opened the year with a 15th-place finish in Kansas that included a 1-under-par 70 in her first round of the season.

The Regional Preview is made up of 20 teams from the MIAA, the Great American Conference, and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
