Bronchos Finish Second At Regional Preview

Central Oklahoma Ties Washburn For Second In Nebraska

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma finished second at the Regional Preview hosted by the University of Nebraska Kearney this week at Meadowlark Hills Golf Club.

Host UNK won the team title with a final 54-hole score of 870. The Bronchos were second with an 886 and tied with Washburn. Rogers State (895) and Arkansas Tech  and Southwestern Oklahoma State (897) rounded out the top five.

"We played well this week," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "Our second round on Monday wasn't our best, but we did enough Sunday and today to put ourselves in a good spot. If we can play this good or better in the regional in the spring, we'll be happy with that."

Kearney is hosting the NCAA Central Region Championships at Meadowlark in May.

Layne Ailshie led the Bronchos this week with a 5-over-par 218, good enough for a sixth-place finish. The junior from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma shot a 4-over 75 on Sunday, a 1-over 72 on Monday, and kept getting better with an even-par 71 on Tuesday in the final round. Ailshie played the front nine even with one bogey and one birdie. She did the same on the back nine with two bogeys and two birdies.

Senior Scarlet Sturch finished tied for 11th with an 8-over 221. Sturch started the tournament with an even-par 71, then shot a 5-over 76 yesterday. On the final day, Sturch posted a 3-over 74 to wrap it up. She made three birdie putts on Tuesday to go along with nine par saves.

Ivanna Gerez and Estela Castillo both recorded 12-over-par 225s this week. Gerez logged rounds of 72-76-76 while Castillo shot 73-79-73. Gerez made one birdie to go with 11 pars on Tuesday. Castillo had three birdies in the final round and nine par makes.

Redshirt freshman Reagan Plank was also in the lineup this week. She had back-to-back rounds of 8-over 79 on Sunday and Monday. Plank finished with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday for a 231. She birdied two holes in the final round, including her 54th hole of the tournament.
