UCO Falls 3-0 At Missouri Western

Bronchos Open MIAA Play With Two Road Losses In Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 22 Central Oklahoma struggled to gain traction throughout the match in a 3-0 loss at No. 8 Missouri Western Friday night in MIAA play.
 
UCO is now 10-5 overall on the season and 0-2 in league play after opening weekend.
 
"We were out of sorts all night and Missouri Western is a really good team," UCO head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We couldn't find a rhythm and get it going. We knew they would be hard to stop."
 
Central Oklahoma hit .077 with a season-high 22 attack errors on Friday night.
 
A mix of players were involved in getting UCO to 31 kills, led by Caroline Clayton with eight. Myla Unterweger had five while Kate Wells, Brylee Moore, and Georgia Ahlert all had four kills. Mya McCoy and Riley Roberts added three each. Roberts dished out 24 assists.
 
Kaitlyn Parrott's 15 digs led the back row while Roberts added 10 herself. Jenna Monroe dug up nine attacks, Unterweger had seven, and Morgan Manning added four. Clatyon also had two blocks for the Bronchos. Wells had three block-assists and Roberts had two.
 
Aces for Parrott, Wells, and Monroe led the service for the Bronchos.
 
Central was tied 8-8 with MWSU in the opening set, but a few spurts of back-to-back points and then a 5-0 run late gave the hosts a 25-16 win and a 1-0 lead. Missouri Western got out to a big lead early and didn't look back in a second set win by the same score, 25-16.
 
The Bronchos kept it close in the third set and were tied 15-15 before Mo. West's final rally. There were eight ties in the set but that was the last as the Griffons won 25-19 for the sweep.
 
Central Oklahoma plays two home games next week – Homecoming Week at UCO. The Bronchos host Missouri Southern Thursday at 6 p.m. and No. 25 Central Missouri on Friday at 5 p.m. in Hamilton Field House.
