UCO In Michigan For Regional Preview

Bronchos Tee Off Monday Morning At Meadows Golf Club

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Central Oklahoma returns to the course Monday morning for its second tournament of the season at Grand Valley State's Regional Preview.

The Bronchos will play the 7,049-yard Par 72 Meadows Golf Course twice Monday and once again Tuesday. GVSU is hosting the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional Championships in 2027 and 18 teams from the two regions are previewing the course this week.

"We got off to a good start last week and we'll need to again on Monday," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "There are a lot of good teams in this field including the host so it's going to be tough."

Grand Valley State is ranked No. 4 in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) coaches' poll. UCO is ranked 10th. Missouri St. Louis is also ranked 17th in the country and several other participants – Harding, Central Missouri, Washburn, Findlay, Wayne State, and Missouri S&T – are all receiving votes in the national coaches' poll.

Nick Canales, Rhett Hughes, Will Whorton, Bryant Polhill, and Ty Hyatt make up the five-person lineup for the Bronchos. They tee off at 8 a.m. on holes 1-4 in foursomes with GVSU, UMSL, and UCM.

UCO got the 2026-27 season off to a hot start last week. At Central Missouri's The Mule, it was the Bronchos running away with a 27-shot victory. Central Oklahoma shot a 22-under-par 818, the second best 54-hole mark in school history, to take the team title for the third consecutive year.

Whorton won the individual title with a 9-under-par 201. In his first collegiate tournament, the Norman, Oklahoma native shot a 67 in all three rounds. Canales finished second one shot back with an 8-under 202. Canales won the individual title in 2024 and 2025 before the runner-up finish last week.

Hughes finished third one more shot back with a 7-under-par 203. Hyatt finished 11th with a 2-over-par 212. Polhill is aiming to rebound after a tough start to his season. The Edmond native shot a 230, his highest collegiate score.

UCO will take a week off following this week's Regional Preview. The Bronchos head to St. Joseph, Missouri for the Holiday Inn Express Invitational hosted by Missouri Western at St. Joseph Country Club Sept. 28-29.
