22nd-ranked Bronchos Sweep Ouachita Baptist

UCO Went 4-0 in MIAA/GAC Crossover Tournament

EDMOND – Riley Roberts put together another brilliant all-around outing to spearhead Central Oklahoma's sweep of Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon on the final day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Tournament at Hamilton Field House.

The senior setter handed out 43 assists to go along with 11 digs, eight kills and two assisted blocks in a 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 victory, the sixth in a row for the No. 22-ranked Bronchos (10-3). It was the third 40-assist match in the last four outings for Roberts.

"Riley does a lot of things for us and she played well today," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We did some good things offensively, with a lot of different players contributing. It was a tough match, but we found a way."

Eight players had at least eight kills for UCO, which hit .300-plus for the fourth time this season at .311.

Georgia Ahlert and freshman Mya McCoy both hit .450. Ahlert collected 11 kills with two errors in 20 attacks and McCoy had 10 kills against just one miscue in 20 tries in her first-ever start while adding three assisted blocks.

Taylor Fenton chipped in nine kills, with Caroline Clayton, Myla Unterweger and Roberts finishing with eight. All-American libero Kaitlyn Parrott dug up 24 attacks on the back row - several in spectacular fashion - and Emma Halstead added 10 digs.

The Bronchos overcame a 17-13 deficit in the opening set, ripping off five straight points to take an 18-17 lead on a Roberts dump at the net. McCoy blasted down four kills the rest of the way and Clayton ended it with a shot down the line.

OBU took the early lead again in the second set and was up 9-6 before Halstead's ace capped a 4-0 run that put UCO up 10-9. It went back and forth from there until Fenton's kill gave the Bronchos the lead for good at 17-16.

Fenton, Roberts, Ahlert, Unterweger and McCoy all had kills down the stretch as Central closed out the win to take command of the match.

The Bronchos never trailed in the third set, breaking away from a 6-6 tie with a 5-1 run to go up 11-7 on a Clayton kill. Ahlert took over from there slamming down six kills the rest of the way, including the final three – two of those coming after Parrott made diving digs on OBU attacks.

UCO opens conference play next week, going to Missouri for back-to-back matches against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
