UCO Duo Begins National Championships Wednesday In Alabama

Mei Hasegawa and Ayaka Koga Will Compete For National Title

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Central Oklahoma has two student-athletes competing on the national stage this week as the ITA Division II National Championships begin Wednesday at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.

Mei Hasegawa is competing in the singles tournament and the doubles tournament with teammate Ayaka Koga.

Hasegawa went 9-2 this fall and finished runner-up in the ITA Central Region Championships in Edmond last month. That finish clinched a berth at nationals. A junior for the Bronchos, Hasegawa was named MIAA Player of the Year in 2026 before earning All-American honors.

As a duo, Hasegawa and Koga teamed up for the first time at the ITA Central Region Championships and the pair went 5-0 to win the title and earn a berth to nationals. Koga won the regional doubles title for the second year in a row.

Hasegawa will face Fabienne Lahn of Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern) in the Round of 32. She could run into Polina Gontaryk of Northwest Missouri in the Round of 16 if both players advance. Gontaryk beat Hasegawa in three sets for the Central Region title last month.

Koga and Hasegawa will begin their quest Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) in the doubles Round of 32. The duo will face Zofia Dziewiecka and Isabella Stuurman of Menlo College.

Action resumes all weekend with the championship matches decided on Sunday, Nov. 8 in Tuscaloosa.
