Bronchos Fall In Rogers State Series Finale

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma let go of an early lead and couldn't keep pace with No. 7 Rogers State Tuesday when the Bronchos lost 21-10 in the MIAA matchup at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is now 20-20 on the season and 11-15 in the MIAA. The Bronchos continue an eight-game homestand with the final three contests in that stretch this weekend. Central hosts Arkansas Fort Smith for a three-game MIAA series beginning Friday.

Trevor Rowe and Elijah Alexander hit solo home runs in the second inning to give UCO a 2-0 lead. In the third, Colton Ayres hit a sacrifice fly to score Kade Sheldon after his leadoff triple. Then Haden O'Toole hit a two-RBI double to score Rowe and Drake Lee. That gave the Bronchos a 5-0 lead.

But it all turned in the fourth. Rogers had an answer.

RSU scored eight runs in the fourth and led 9-5 in the fifth. UCO tried to contend but couldn't keep pace. It was 13-7 in the sixth and 14-8 in the seventh before another big frame made it 21-9 in the eighth. Alexander hit his second solo home run of the game in the eighth but UCO couldn't extend the game for one more inning and fell via run-rule for the second time in this season's series with the Hillcats.

Brody Berlowitz got the start for UCO on Tuesday and made it through three innings allowing only one hit. He gave up a second hit and walked a batter in the fourth before Zack Hudspeth came out of the bullpen in relief. Berlowitz would get two earned runs against his line, Hudspeth gave up two runs on one hit, and Michael Lopez followed, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk.

Chase Yarger got UCO out of the fourth inning and threw 2.1 in the game. He gave up five runs on six hits. Gage Norvell, Cade Perkins, Caden Hinther, Trent Gerber, and Jackson MacWilliams all made relief appearances as well for the Bronchos.
