UCO Drops Emporia Series With Saturday Loss

Bronchos Lose Game 2 12-3 Saturday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma let a big rally go in the middle of its second game against Emporia State this weekend and the Bronchos lost 12-3 in the MIAA affair at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is now 11-11 on the season and 2-6 in the MIAA. The Bronchos meet the Hornets Sunday at noon in the series finale.

Central had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second and still led by that margin going to the fourth inning. But Emporia scored four in the fourth, another in the fifth, four in the sixth, and one more in the seventh. UCO got one back in the fifth, but it wasn't enough. Emporia added two more for good measure in the ninth.

Kamden Thompson got the start for the Bronchos and was credited with a loss (2-3) after 4.0 innings of work. He struck out a season-high five batters but gave up four runs on seven hits. UCO used seven more pitchers out of the bullpen, with six of those recording strikeouts as the Bronchos racked up 13 on the day.

Unfortunately, UCO's offense couldn't come through.

Drake Lee, Elijah Alexander, and Cade Mills all had two hits, and Noah Smallwood, Caleb Castle, and Carson Taylor each had one.

Taylor scored Alexander on a single through the right side in the bottom of the second inning to make it 1-0. Solomon Skalnik then laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Taylor to make it 2-0.

Lee's single in the fifth scored Castle to cut the ESU lead to 5-3.

Central Oklahoma has one more chance to get a win over Emporia in the season series Sunday at noon. The Bronchos play the first of three midweek MIAA games against Rogers State on Tuesday. That game will be played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City.
