UCO Wraps Up First Pitch Classic With 11-3 Win

Central Oklahoma Beats East Central In Final Game of 2026 Edmond First Pitch Classic

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma ended opening week with an 11-3 win over East Central Sunday in the final game of the eighth annual Edmond First Pitch Classic at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is 3-2 on the season. The Bronchos got revenge on ECU, which won 7-3 on Thursday in the teams' first meeting.

"We obviously need to be more consistent but we're figuring things out and today was good," first-year head baseball coach Robbie Rea said. "Pitching was really good today. We had just one bad inning so limiting mistakes was key for us. Our offense did a good job of staying patient and took advantage of their opportunities too."

Kamden Thompson picked up his first career win at Central. The junior from Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma junior college product threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs. He struck out one batter.

Thompson threw six shutout innings. He gave up three singles in the sixth and came out of the game. Brody Berlowitz tried to get out of the bases loaded jam but hit a batter, walked another, and gave up an infield single. Those three runs were charged to Thompson. Then Berlowitz got UCO out of the seventh.

He pitched a scoreless eighth and Mylan Childers threw a 1-2-3 ninth that included two strikeouts.

UCO broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. Kade Sheldon's two-RBI double scored Cade Mills and Jackson Archambaeu. Carson Taylor hit a two-RBI single in the next inning and the Bronchos led 4-0 going to the seventh.

After ECU's rally to make it 4-3, Elijah Alexander pelted a solo home run to center field to make it 5-3. Then the Bronchos blew it open in the eighth.

Archambeau hit a two-RBI double to left that scored Colton Ayres and Caleb Castle. Sheldon hit another two-RBI double to score Mills and Archambeau. Then Luke Stout smashed a two-run home run to right field that scored Sheldon and gave UCO the 11-3 lead.

Sheldon, Stout, Mills, and Archambeau all had two hits in the game. Alexander, Ayres, Taylor, and Trevor Rowe each had one.

Central Oklahoma will continue an early homestand next weekend with a four-game series against Colorado Christian Feb. 13-15. The teams will play Friday afternoon, twice on Saturday, and once more Sunday. The teams met in Edmond last year for the first time and UCO won 3-1, 6-3, and 12-11.
