Bronchos Rebound To Beat Southeastern

Central Oklahoma Wins 7-3 Friday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma didn't let an early deficit get in the way of a 7-3 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon on the second day of the Edmond First Pitch Classic at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is 2-1 on the young season with the win. The Bronchos return Saturday to face Missouri - St. Louis (0-2) and will wrap up the festival Sunday against East Central (1-1).

"We played better today," first-year UCO head baseball coach Robbie Rea said. "Our offense did a better job of finding ways to get on base and we moved runners around. It was a lot better today. Still have a lot of work to do this weekend though."

Southeastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with back-to-back solo home runs off starter Cade Perkins. The Bronchos tied it up in the third when Luke Stout hit a two-RBI single that scored Caleb Castle and Kade Sheldon.

The visiting Savage Storm went back in front 3-2 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, then the Bronchos took over.

Drake Lee's single in the fifth scored Sheldon to tie the game again, 3-3. In the sixth, Colton Ayres scored on a passed ball. Castle scored again on a sac-fly from Sheldon. Haden O'Toole scored on a Stout single, and Stout scored on a Trevor Rowe double. The last of those made it 7-3.

Perkins threw 2 2/3 and gave up the two early runs on two hits. He issued three walks and struck out two batters as well. Bron Farr came out of the bullpen first and eventually earned the win for the Bronchos. The right-handed reliever threw 3 1/3 and allowed just one run on four hits and a pair of walks. He also struck out two batters. Tristan Wittau threw two relief innings and struck out one batter. Michael Lopez threw the ninth and gave up one hit.

UCO faces an UMSL team that lost 24-1 to Pittsburg State on Thursday in the first game of the Edmond First Pitch Classic. The Tritons from St. Louis, Missouri lost 10-0 to Emporia State on Friday night.
