UCO Evens Series With Missouri Western

Bronchos Win 9-5 In Game 2, Play For Series Win Sunday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma got back in the win column with a 9-5 victory at Missouri Western on Friday afternoon.
 
The Bronchos are 10-6 on the season following the Game 2 victory and evened the series setting up the rubber match Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
UCO jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first but trailed 2-1 after two innings. Then a six-run fourth gave the Bronchos control. Luke Stout hit a grand slam in the inning.
 
It was 9-2 in the top of the fifth and Missouri Western added one back in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the seventh as the host Griffons tried to come back. Central Oklahoma kept MWSU hitless over the final two innings.
 
Braxton Jones got the start for the Bronchos and the win. He threw 5.0 innings, struck out six batters, and allowed just three runs on five hits and a pair of walks.
 
Mylan Childers gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in the sixth, ending his near seven-inning scoreless streak to start the game. He also did not record a strikeout on Friday after 15 in his first 6.2 innings of work.
 
Tristan Wittau came on and threw the seventh and eight innings. He struck out two batters. Brody Berlowitz closed the door on the win with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout in the ninth.
 
Stout led the Bronchos going 2-for-4 with the grand slam in the fourth. Colton Ayres and Elijah Alexander also had two hits each in the game. Ayres scored two runs and Alexander had a double and also scored a pair of runs.
 
Central Oklahoma got a run in the first on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch. Drake Lee got an RBI as Ayres scored to make it 1-0. Alexander and Haden O'Toole both scored scored on the same play in the fourth when Caleb Castle reached on an error. That made it 3-2, UCO. Stout's grand slam followed to make it 7-2.
 
Alexander scored again in the fifth on a wild pitch and O'Toole scored on a Castle sac-fly to make it 9-2.
 
Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western wrap up the three-game series with the decisive Game 3 Saturday at 1 p.m. UCO is home for the next two weekends, hosting Washburn March 6-8 and Emporia State March 13-15.
