Bronchos Sweep Colorado Christian Sunday In Edmond

Central Oklahoma Wins All Four In Non-Conference Series

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma swept the four-game non-conference series with Colorado Christian, finishing it off with a 7-2 win Sunday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos improved to 7-2 on the season with the win. UCO will make a short road trip to Shawnee, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday before continuing the home heavy month of February with a three-game non-conference series against Drury next weekend.

"Today was one of our better games this season," first-year UCO head baseball coach Robbie Rea said. "Our pitching was good from start to finish and our offense gave them plenty of support. We needed a win like that to help us see what we're capable of and we need to continue to win games like that as we figure out more of who we are."

Kamden Thompson threw 7.0 innings, allowing the two runs on just six hits. He struck out two and improved to 2-0 on the season after his third start for the Bronchos. Bron Farr picked up a two-inning save. He went six-up, six-down with a pair of strikeouts.

UCO did not walk a batter in the game.

The offense scored early and often to help out Thompson in his start. Kade Sheldon hit a rare infield double as CCU failed to find the high fly ball. He scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Luke Stout hit an RBI single to score Caleb Castle in the third. That gave the Bronchos a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Elijah Alexander scored on a wild pitch and Carson Taylor scored Drake Lee on an RBI single up the middle.

Leading 4-1 in the fifth, Lee singled to right field and scored Colton Ayres to make it 5-1.

CCU got one back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, but the Bronchos put more on the board in the eighth.

A bases loaded walk scored Cade Mills and in the same inning, a bases loaded hit by pitch scored Taylor to make it the final, 7-2.

Sheldon's double was the only extra base hit for the Bronchos, who had nine in the game. Sheldon, Alexander, and Lee each had two hits. Ayres, Stout, and Taylor had one each.
