Bronchos Bounced In Rogers State Matchup

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma let a big first-half run by visiting Rogers State put their MIAA matchup out of reach Saturday at Hamilton Field House where the Bronchos lost 75-59.
 
UCO is now 15-12 on the season and 8-7 in the MIAA. The Bronchos host No. 3 Washburn and currently receiving votes Central Missouri next week in the final two home games of the season.
 
Late in the first half, Central Oklahoma trailed Rogers State 24-22 but Rogers went on a 17-0 over a 5:23 stretch to take a commanding 41-22 lead. The game was 37-34 UCO after the point as Rogers sat on the lead.
 
"It's really hard to dig your way out of a hole like that," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "Without the run, we outscore them by one, but that run was the difference."
 
Saturday was only the second game this season UCO didn't score 60 points. It was also the second game this season that junior forward Matthew Willenborg didn't score double figures. He had nine points and seven rebounds with one block.
 
Josh Nwankwo led Central Oklahoma with 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting. He added five boards, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
 
Brady Hancuff also had nine points spelling Willenborg. He was 4-for-6 from the floor with four rebounds. Parker Hannah and Marcus Zeigler Jr. scored seven points each, Connor Newton added two, and Chase Sucharda and Jack Robinson both scored one point in the game.
 
Central Oklahoma shot just 41.1 percent from the floor, 6-for-20 from behind the 3-point line, and were 7-for-16 from the free-throw line.
 
UCO hosts Washburn and Central Missouri next week in two key MIAA games. The Bronchos are now two games behind Rogers State for third place in the MIAA standings with four games remaining.
