No. 7 Bronchos Sweep No. 5 Ferris State

Head Coach Edgar Miraku Earns Record-setting 305 Win

TYLER, Texas – Kedron Burk collected 15 kills to spark Central Oklahoma's stunning sweep of Ferris State in a battle of top-10 national powerhouses Saturday morning in the Patriot Classic to give head coach Edgar Miraku his record-setting 305th career win.

The No. 7-ranked Bronchos toppled the No. 5 Bulldogs 25-21, 25-16, 25-21, overcoming a 9-1 third-set deficit for their third straight sweep in the season-opening event. UCO takes on Ouachita Baptist at 3 p.m. to close the weekend.

"I'm really proud of my team for the effort they showed," Miraku said. "It's not easy to play a match at 9 in the morning, but they came out ready to go and we beat an outstanding team. Ferris has one of the top programs in the country and it's a big win for us, but we still have one match to go."

Miraku became the winningest coach in program history with the victory. The 13th-year skipper is now a sensational 305-93 for his career, surpassing the record of 304 wins Mark Herrin accumulated from 1990-02.

"It's a big honor and I'm humbled," Miraku said of the record. "I've been fortunate to have had a lot of great players and assistant coaches over the years."

Burk had the best outing of her brief UCO career in leading the Bronchos past Ferris. The senior transfer hit .412 with 15 kills and just one error in 34 attacks while adding five digs and one solo block.

Freshman Kamryn Glover had another strong performance with 10 kills, seven digs, two service aces and a solo block. Mikiah Perdue added eight kills and two blocks, while Sawyer Franz had five kills.

Lindsey Houran handed out 32 assists to go along with 16 digs and three kills. Kaitlyn Parrott came up huge in the back row, collecting a career-high 30 digs, with Riley Roberts chipping in 10.

UCO never trailed in the first set after jumping on top 4-1, though the Bulldogs tied it at 6-all. Two FSU errors and a Glover kill put the Bronchos on top 9-6 and a 5-0 run shortly after that made it 16-9.

Perdue had three of her six kills the rest of the way as UCO finished off the 25-21 win. Burk had four kills in the set.

The second set went back-and-forth early and Ferris led 13-11 when the Bronchos reeled off seven unanswered points to grab an 18-13 lead. Glover had two kills during that spurt.

Burk knocked down three kills down the stretch and Houran ended the 25-16 win with a kill at the net.

The Bulldogs zipped out to a 9-1 lead in the third set, but UCO slowly fought its way back. Burk had three kills and a block and Glover an ace in closing the deficit to 11-9 and the Bronchos finally pulled even at 13.

FSU scored three straight points to regain the lead at 16-13 and was up 19-16 when Central went on another big run. Burk had three kills, Glover one and Myla Unterweger another in a 6-0 spree that gave the Bronchos a 22-19 lead, with Perdue and Houran teaming up for a block on set point to end the match.
