No. 7 Bronchos Start Season With Sweep

UCO Topples UT-Dallas For 11th Straight Season-opening Win

TYLER, Texas – Kamryn Glover knocked down 13 kills in her collegiate debut to lead No. 7-ranked Central Oklahoma to a sweep of UT-Dallas Thursday night on the first day of the Patriot Classic.

The Bronchos prevailed 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 for their 11th straight season-opening win. UCO returns Friday to face host UT-Tyler at 4 p.m. before finishing the three-day event Saturday against No. 5 Ferris State and Ouachita Baptist.

"It was a good start for us," said 13th-year head coach Edgar Miraku. "We were up-and-down a little bit, but it was our first match with a lot of new players and I'm happy with the way the team responded."

Glover -- a freshman outside hitter from Graford, Texas -- was the catalyst, hitting a solid .256 with 13 kills and three errors in 39 attacks while adding seven digs.

Sawyer Franz and Mikiah Perdue collected nine kills apiece, with Perdue making just one miscue in 16 attempts in hitting .500. Kedron Burk added seven kills.

Lindsey Houran directed the offensive attack, dishing out 36 assists to go along with 13 digs and two kills. Kaitlyn Parrott (16 digs), Morgan Manning (11) and Riley Roberts (nine) paced UCO's back-row defense.

The Bronchos got off to a fast start in the match, bolting to a 4-0 lead in the opening set behind two Houran service aces and a Perdue kill. It was 8-2 after a Parrott ace, but the Comets responded with a 12-3 run to move ahead 14-11.

It was a 16-15 deficit when UCO took control, getting kills from Perdue and Franz along with a Parrott ace and Burk solo block in reeling off seven unanswered points to surge in front 22-16. Burk's kill capped the 25-18 victory.

The second set was tied 5-5 early before Burk and Glover slammed down two kills apiece in a 6-0 spurt to give the Bronchos an 11-5 lead. UCO stayed ahead the rest of the way, with Franz making three kills down the stretch to help close out the 25-20 win.

It was close again in the early stages of the third set and then the Bronchos erupted. Glover had four kills and Perdue two along with a block in a devastating 12-1 run that turned a narrow 6-4 lead into an insurmountable 18-5 advantage and UCO coasted in from there to finish off the sweep.
