Central Drops Home Match With Emporia State

Bronchos Fall 2-0 In MIAA Contest, Hit Road For Next Four

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma lost 2-0 to Emporia State Sunday afternoon in its second MIAA game of the weekend and season at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO is now 2-3-3 on the year overall and has an 0-1-1 record in the MIAA after opening weekend. Emporia State is 5-3-0 overall and now 2-0-0 in league play.

"We just can't get the offensive chances going and that hurt us today," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Our defense has been great and was again today. I think if we can get some offense going, the defense can be even better."

Central Oklahoma didn't attempt a shot in the first half of Sunday's match with Emporia State. The Bronchos did get two quick chances in the second half and nearly scored to break the 0-0 tie. But the Bronchos didn't get many more.

By the end of 90 minutes, Central was outshot 12-5, including an 8-2 disadvantage in shots on goal.

Emporia State broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute when Mikhaela Goen scored from 25 yards out thanks to an assist from Hailey Gancarz. ESU made it 2-0 in the 84th minute when Ella Favot found space in the box and scored thanks to an assist from Sammy Quiroz.

Central Oklahoma senior goalkeeper Avery Bass, who had not allowed a goal in over 250 minutes of play, had to make six saves in the game. She had one brilliant save in the first half, leaping to the upper 90 to deflect an Emporia shot.

Emma Nicholas, Rebecca Tweedy, Rebekah George, Lauren Piper, and Caleah Carter all took one shot each in the game. Piper and Carter had shots on goal in the second half.

Central will now hit the road for a four-game road swing. The Bronchos travel to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western next weekend and will play at Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney the following weekend. UCO returns home Oct. 17 to face No. 10 Central Missouri.
