No. 2 Bronchos Sweep Past Pitt State

UCO Improves to 16-0 With 14th Sweep of Season

PITTSBURG, Kansas – Sydney Huck collected a season-high 16 kills to spark Central Oklahoma to a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rout of Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon.

The No. 2-ranked Bronchos posted their 14th sweep in a 16-0 start with the 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 victory, improving to 2-0 in the league. UCO returns home Thursday to host MIAA rival Missouri Southern.

"It was a good weekend for us," said head coach Edgar Miraku of the Bronchos, who swept Newman Friday night. "Every match is hard in our league, especially on the road, but we came out and played well."

Huck was outstanding, hitting .368 with 16 kills and two errors in 38 attacks. The senior outside hitter also had a season-best 14 digs.

Kedron Burk was a dominating force at the net for UCO, hitting .409 with 11 kills in 22 attempts with two miscues while adding five blocks and a service ace. The Bronchos also got nine kills and two blocks from Mikiah Perdue and six kills with three blocks from Kamryn Glover.

Riley Roberts had another stellar all-around outing, knocking down five kills with 15 digs. Lindsey Houran directed the offensive attack, finishing with 37 assists and 14 digs, while Kaitlyn Parrott dug up 20 PSU attacks.

Huck got off to a fast start in the opening set, knocking down four kills as UCO jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The Gorillas rallied to get close at 20-19, but it all Bronchos after that.

Huck started a set-ending 5-0 run with back-to-back kills, Glover followed with another and then Perdue ended it with consecutive smashes at the net, with Houran setting up all five kills.

Burk took over to start the second set, knocking down two kills and adding a block as UCO went up 5-2. It was 8-5 when Roberts took over, registering three straight kills to make it 11-5 and the Bronchos coasted in from there.

The third set was tied 5-5 before two Perdue kills and a Burk slam dunk put UCO on top to stay. It was close at 9-8 before three Huck kills led a 5-0 spurt that made it 14-9 and end all suspense.
