Central Draws Washburn In MIAA Opener

Bronchos Play To Scoreless Tie Against Washburn In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma opened MIAA play Friday night with a scoreless draw against Washburn.

The two teams battled for 90 minutes and neither side could find the back of the net. In the last four meetings, three last season and Friday night, one goal has been scored in 380 minutes of competition.

"I'm proud of our defense for limiting their chances and stopping them when they came," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Hats off to their defense because it was just as good. We had a couple of chances that really could've been the difference but it just didn't go our way."

Central Oklahoma freshman Jane Lockhart had the best chance. Her free kick in the 66th minute from inside 30 yards looked like a sure goal before it hit the left post and ricocheted out. Sophomore Caleah Carter took a shot in the 52nd minute that also looked like it was heading into the top corner, but the Washburn keeper got one hand on it to make a save and prevent the score.

UCO took nine total shots to Washburn's five. The Bronchos put five on goal to WU's four. The defenses held both opponents below their season average for shots in a game.

Avery Bass was the keeper again for the Bronchos and kept another clean sheet. The senior from Broken Arrow has 15 career shutouts in 37 career games, earning her third this season. Bass is up to 160 saves in her career after four tonight as she inches closer to top five in school history.

Carter took a team-high three shots and put two on target. Lockhart took two shots in the game. Adison Knocke, Rebekah George, Sheridan Ross, and Adria Ramirez all got one shot off against the suffocating Washburn defense.

For UCO's defense, the five shots taken against the Bronchos are a season low for an opponent in 2025.

Central Oklahoma continues MIAA play this weekend with Emporia State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Edmond. The Bronchos have a four-game road swing to follow and won't be home again until Oct. 17 against Central Missouri.
