Unbeaten UCO Sweeps Crimson Storm

Sydney Huck's 15 Kills Lead No. 2 Bronchos

EDMOND – Sydney Huck had six of her season-high 15 kills in a back-and-forth third set as unbeaten Central Oklahoma finished off a sweep of Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 2-ranked Bronchos prevailed 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 to complete a four-match run in the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge. UCO improved to 14-0 with its 12th sweep of the season.

"We didn't play our best, but made some key plays when we needed to," head coach Edgar Miraku. "It was a good week for us and now we have to get ready for the conference schedule, which is going to be a real challenge as usual."

The Bronchos open MIAA play next week with back-to-back road matches at Newman and Pittsburg State.

Huck hit .333 on the day with 15 kills in 36 attacks with three errors while adding a pair of digs. It was the 64th double-digit kill outing of the senior outside hitter's fabulous career.

Freshman sensation Kamryn Glover had 12 kills, with Mikiah Perdue chipping in eight kills and four blocks and Kedron Burk seven kills with two rejections.

Setter Lindsey Houran finished with 35 assists in directing the offense, adding 12 digs, two kills and an ace. Riley Roberts led the back row defense with 15 digs and Kaitlyn Parrott chipped in 11.

UCO never trailed in the first set, opening with a Huck kill and Houran ace to go up 2-0. It was a 7-6 lead when Perdue slammed down a shot at the net to ignite a 7-0 run, with the senior middle blocker adding two more kills as the Bronchos went ahead 14-6.

Glover had three kills the rest of the way as UCO stayed safely in front to take control of the match.

The Bronchos jumped on top quickly in the second set as well, grabbing a 6-1 lead behind two Burk kills and a Morgan Manning ace. It was 11-3 after a Glover smash down the middle and the Crimson Storm never got closer than five the rest of the way.

Glover finished with five kills, while Burk and Huck had four apiece in the set.

It was a different story in the third set as SNU took an early lead and the teams went back-and-forth most of the way. UCO trailed 17-16 when Perdue tied it with another dunk at the net.

The Bronchos then took over with Glover on serve. The rookie started with an ace, Perdue followed with a kill and then teamed with Houran from an emphatic block before Huck's kill made it 21-17.

The Crimson Storm got no closer and Huck finished off the sweep with consecutive kills.
