Bronchos Take Care of Northwestern Oklahoma

No. 2 UCO Stays Unbeaten WIth Sweep of Rangers

EDMOND – Lindsey Houran directed a near-unstoppable offensive attack that carried No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma to a runaway rout of Northwestern Oklahoma Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos hit a blistering .444 with 51 kills and just seven errors in 99 attacks behind Houran's 38 assists in a 25-11, 25-12, 25-19 romp. It was the 11th sweep of the season for UCO, which improved to 13-0 heading into Saturday's 2 p.m. meeting with Southern Nazarene in the finale of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge.

"Our offense was really efficient tonight and Lindsey sets the tone for that," said head coach Edgar Miraku, who improved to 315-93 in his 13th year at the helm. "We were really balanced offensively. Its been a good week, but we have to come out ready to go again tomorrow."

Houran succeeded on nearly 50 percent of her set attempts in racking up 38 assists. The senior standout had five kills of her own in five attempts to go along with three digs and two assisted blocks.

Mikiah Perdue led UCO's offensive assault, hitting .524 with 12 kills in 21 attempts with just one error along with three blocks. Kamryn Glover had 10 kills in 28 tries with no miscues in hitting .367 while adding seven digs, three blocks and two service aces.

The Bronchos also got eight kills from Kedron Burk (.429 attack percentage), seven from Sydney Huck (.417) and six from Myla Unterweger (.308). Kaitlyn Parrott topped the defense with 14 digs.

The Rangers scored the first two points of the first set and it was tied at 5-5 when UCO took control with a 15-2 run. Kills by Burk and Perdue along with a combined block by Houran and Perdue gave the Bronchos the lead and it quickly became a rout.

Morgan Manning was on serve when Central ran off 10 straight points, with her ace ending the spree that made it a 20-7 cushion. Glover had three kills the rest of the way to finish it off.

It was the same scenario in the second set as NWOSU grabbed a 2-0 lead and it was close early. And then the Bronchos went on a 11-3 run to turn a 6-5 lead into a 17-8 cushion.

Perdue knocked down four kills, Huck three and Houran two in giving UCO the big lead and the Bronchos coasted in from there, with Glover's solo block on set point ending it.

The Rangers led 8-6 in the third set when another big run gave UCO the lead. Houran's dump at the net started things, Perdue drilled a shot down the middle to tie it and a NWOSU error put the Bronchos on top.

Riley Roberts' ace continued the surge, then Unterweger followed with a kill that made it 12-8. The lead grew to 22-13 after two Glover aces and back-to-back kills by Unterweger and another Unterweger dart ended the rout.
