No. 2 UCO Rolls Over East Central

Bronchos Improve to 12-0 With 10th Sweep of Season

EDMOND – Sydney Huck knocked down 14 kills and Central Oklahoma stayed perfect with a three-set drubbing of East Central Thursday night at Hamilton Field House in the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge.

The No. 2-ranked Bronchos rolled to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-17 victory, improving to 12-0 with their 10th sweep of the season. UCO is back on the court Friday for a 5 p.m. contest against Northwestern Oklahoma before finishing the three-day event against Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. Saturday.

"We came out and took care of business," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It was good to use a lot of players in different roles. We're still dealing with some injuries, but everybody has been stepping up and getting the job done."

Huck hit a solid .286 in reaching double-digit kills for the 63rd time in her stellar career, finishing with 14 in 35 attacks with four errors. The senior outside hitter added three digs, an ace and an assisted block.

Kedron Burk had a sizzling .471 attack percentage, making one miscue in 17 attempts with nine kills to go along with three blocks. Mikiah Perdue chipped in six kills and Myla Unterweger five.

Kaitlyn Parrott once again spearheaded the back row defensive efforts with 19 digs, while Riley Roberts had 12. Lindsey Houran handed out 17 assists in a set and a half, with Taylor Nielsen (nine assists) and Roberts (six) handling the setter duties the rest of the way.

Huck sandwiched a pair of kills around a Kamryn Glover ace to give UCO a quick 3-0 lead in the first set and it was 5-1 after another Huck kill. It was still a four-point lead at 10-6 when back-to-back ECU errors along with kills by Perdue and Glover pushed the cushion to 14-6.

The Bronchos continued to pull away from there and cruised in with the win. Burk and Huck had two kills apiece and Glover served up two more aces the rest of the way.

UCO was up 9-7 in the second set when a devastating 13-2 run ended all doubt. Huck and Unterweger slammed down two kills each in that spurt as the Bronchos grabbed a commanding 22-9 lead.

Huck answered an ECU score with another shot up the line to make it 23-10 and Unterweger ended the 25-12 rout with a deep drive down the middle.

The Tigers took their first and only lead of the match with an ace on the opening serve of the third set, but UCO quickly answered back with four straight points. Huck had a kill and ace and Burk two blocks in putting the Bronchos up 4-1.

It was still close at 9-7 when Parrott tallied three aces in a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 15-7. ECU tried to stay in it, but Huck knocked down three more kills as the Bronchos closed out the sweep.
