Bronchos Turn Back Texas Woman's To Stay Unbeaten

No. 2-ranked UCO Improved to 10-0 With Four-set Victory

EDMOND – One streak ended, but the main one continued for Central Oklahoma in Tuesday night's four-set triumph over Texas Woman's at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 2-ranked Bronchos dropped their first set of the season after opening with nine straight sweeps before taking care of the Pioneers 25-14, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16 to remain unbeaten at 10-0.

"TWU has a good team and they're very athletic," said head coach Edgar Miraku of the Pioneers, who qualified for the Division II national tournament last year. "They definitely pushed us, but we did what we needed to do. It was a good win."

Four players had double-digit kills for UCO. Kedron Burk led the way, hitting .333 with 14 kills, while Mikiah Perdue had 13 kills along with three blocks. Kamryn Glover and Sydney Huck chipped in 11 kills apiece.

Lindsey Houran dealt out a season-high 48 assists in directing the offensive attack in addition to contributing 17 digs, three service aces and two kills. Riley Roberts had a solid all-around outing with five kills, 16 digs and two aces.

Kaitlyn Parrott led the back row defense with 14 digs along with four of Central's season-high 12 aces. Morgan Manning chipped in 13 digs and Emma Halstead 10.

The Bronchos trailed 3-1 early in the first set before embarking on a 12-1 run to take control. Parrott served up three straight aces to lead that surge, with Glover and Burk knocked down three kills each.

A Roberts ace gave UCO a huge nine-point advantage at 13-4 and the Pioneers never got any closer the rest of the way.

TWU scored the first six points of the second set on its way to ending the Bronchos' 28-set winning streak, but UCO didn't flinch.

Huck and Roberts opened the third set with back-to-back kills and Central never trailed in taking back control of the match. The lead was 19-15 when  a Houran block, Perdue kill and two TWU errors made it 23-15.

The Pioneers scored to stay alive, then Perdue smashed down a perfect set from Houran and teamed up with Roberts for a block to end it.

It was back-and-forth in the early going of the fourth set before UCO seized command. Roberts had consecutive kills and Burk added a slam dunk at the net to turn a 7-7 tie into a 10-7 lead and it was 18-10 after Perdue scored consecutive points with a shot down the middle and solo block.

TWU couldn't overcome that deficit and the Bronchos coasted in to finish off the win.

The Bronchos are back at home Thursday-Saturday for the three-day MIAA/GAC Crossover at Hamilton. UCO takes on Southwestern Oklahoma at 11 a.m. and East Central at 7 p.m. on Thursday, then tangles with Northwestern Oklahoma at 5 p.m. Friday and Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. Saturday.
