UCO Keeps Rolling In Texas

Bronchos Beat Host St. Mary's In Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Central Oklahoma opened the second and final day of the Rattler Invitational with a 3-0 win over host St. Mary's Saturday morning.

UCO improved to 8-0 on the year and pushed its set streak to 24 in a row to start the season. The Bronchos play Saturday afternoon against Florida Southern to wrap up the trip to San Antonio.

"We played really well all around today," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "We made good plays defensively at the net and on the back row, and we did a good job on the attack too. It was a good start to the day."

Senior Lindsey Houran led the offense with 35 assists in three sets. She also had 11 digs and one kill. Houran paved the way for the Bronchos to hit .265 in the match with 42 kills in three sets.

Freshman Kamryn Glover led the Bronchos with 14 kills and hit .256 on the day, with just four errors on 39 attacks. She also had two service aces, six digs, and two assisted blocks.

Junior Kaitlyn Parrott dug up 21 St. Mary's attacks to lead the back row. Riley Roberts added 11 digs as well as Houran's 11 to help UCO's defensive efforts.

Mikiah Perdue had seven kills and four blocks, Kedron Burk had six kills in the match, and Sydney Huck, Roberts, and Myla Unterweger all had four kills.

UCO had to fight through a back-and-forth battle in the first set but a 6-0 run turned the match from 14-13, St. Mary's, to 20-14, UCO. The Bronchos won the opener 25-19.

The second set was all UCO. The Bronchos led 6-0, had an eight point lead midway through the set, 12-4, and ended it with a 25-13 advantage to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Bronchos had to fight just as hard in the third as the first. There were four early lead changes and St. Mary's held a 16-12 lead, its biggest of the set. UCO scored three straight after that and outscored St. Mary's 7-2 during a short run to go back in front 19-18. Central built a 22-19 lead, pushing that run to 10-3, and then fought off the Rattlers in the end to win 25-22 and take the match.

UCO takes on Florida Southern at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Bornchos have five matches at home next week, with Texas Woman's on Tuesday at Hamilton Field House, and four more matches in the UCO Classic Thursday-Saturday in Edmond.
