Central Sweeps First Match In San Antonio

Bronchos Beat Fairmont State To Improve To 6-0

SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Central Oklahoma continued its winning ways in the first match of the Rattler Invitational Friday morning, when the Bronchos swept Fairmont State 3-0.

UCO (6-0) won 25-19, 25-14, and 25-14 to complete the sixth consecutive sweep to open the season.

"It was a good start for us down here," UCO head coach Edgar Miraku said. "They gave us a tough matchup in the first set and we did a good job of staying focused and playing our game and we were able to put them away. We've got a long weekend ahead of us still so that focus has to remain for three more matches."

Central Oklahoma beat Fairmont State (West Virginia) in the first meeting between the schools. UCO will play Texas A&M International this evening with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. The Bronchos will return tomorrow to take on host St. Mary's and Florida Southern.

Friday morning UCO earned its first lead 4-3 thanks to a Kedron Burk kill. Though the match was tied twice after that, the Bronchos never trailed from there. UCO led by as many as eight when Sydney Huck landed a kill to make it 18-10. The Bronchos put down 16 kills in the first set and hit .306 to gain the early advantage.

UCO jumped out to a big lead in the second set, going on an early 5-0 run to make it 7-1. Kamryn Glover had two early kills and Burk did as well to go along with a solo block. Fairmont battled back to cut it to three, 12-9, but UCO had another late rally and led 24-12 before finishing off the 25-14 win.

The third set was more of the same, with the Bronchos slowly overpowering Fairmont throughout to pull away for the win. UCO led 10-5 early and 20-11 soon after before the 25-14 win.

UCO hit a solid .281 in the match. Lindsey Houran set the attack and finished with 33 assists in three sets. Glover finished with a team-high 12 kills while Burk added 11. Riley Roberts and Huck both landed seven kills and Mikiah Perdue chipped in five.

Kaitlyn Parrott continued her dominant play at libero and dug up 22 attacks while Houran added 12 to anchor the UCO defense. Burk finished with five blocks (two solo) and Perdue had three (one solo). The Bronchos blocked nine total shots.

Central Oklahoma takes on Texas A&M International at 5 p.m Friday. UCO is 3-1 all-time against the Dust Devils from Laredo, Texas.
