Another Sweep For The Bronchos

Central Oklahoma Beats Texas A&M International 3-0 Friday In San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Central Oklahoma rolled through day one of the Rattle Invitational will back-to-back 3-0 wins, taking down Texas A&M International in Friday's nightcap.

UCO (7-0) beat Fairmont State early Friday morning, and returned in the evening to take down the Dust Devils of Laredo, Texas.

"It was a long day to play at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and we didn't play well in tonight's match, but we got the job done and got the win," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "We need to rest and refocus and be ready to play two more tomorrow."

Mikiah Perdue led the Bronchos with 13 kills and the senior added six total blocks (two solo). Kamryn Glover put down seven kills and Myla Unterweger added five. Kedron Burk chipped in four kills.

Kaitlyn Parrott and Riley Roberts anchored the defense with 15 and 13 digs respectively. Freshman Taylor Nielsen dished out a team-high 12 assists while Roberts and eight. Lindsey Houran had eight assists, three digs and one kill in the first set and did not play the next two.

An early 5-1 lead in the first set the tone for the Bronchos against International Friday night. That turned into a 17-10 lead and ultimately a 25-15 win in the first set. UCO only hit .152 in the opening set but had three blocks and forced International into numerous errors both on the attack and the serve.

The second set was much closer with UCO trailing 6-1 in the early moments. The Bronchos called a timeout and suddenly led 7-6 soon after. Central remained in front the rest of the way while International kept it close. UCO hit .070 with 11 kills and eight errors on 43 attacks. The Bronchos also had two service errors in each of the first two sets.

The Bronchos closed it out strong though. Just two errors on 40 attacks in the third set helped UCO finish the job. Texas A&M International jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Central Oklahoma went on a 10-0 run to take command. The Bronchos led by 11, 20-9, and eventually won 25-16 to clinch another three-set sweep – the seventh in as many matches to start the season.

Central Oklahoma is playing four matches in the Rattler Invitational at St. Mary's in San Antonio. The Bronchos will play host SMU on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and will finish up the festival with Florida Southern at 3:30 p.m.

UCO is home next week for a single non-conference match against Texas Woman's on Tuesday, and will host the three-day UCO Classic at Hamilton Field House Thursday through Saturday with matches against GAC programs Southwestern, East Central, Northwestern, and Southern Nazarene.
