Bronchos Even Series With Griffons

Central Oklahoma Wins Game 2 9-2, Rubber Match Sunday at Noon

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma evened the series with a 9-2 win over Missouri Western Friday afternoon, positioning the Bronchos for a chance at one last series win on the final day of the regular season Saturday.

UCO is now 32-15 on the year with the win, and 22-13 in the MIAA. The Bronchos and Missouri Western will play Saturday at 12 p.m. in the finale. A Senior Day ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. prior to first pitch, and Alumni Day celebrations are set for tomorrow as well.

Danny Satterlee struck out five batters in 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits. He did not issue a walk in the game. Central Oklahoma's offense came alive Friday, with a five-run third inning highlighting the day. Orlando Gonzalez drove a ball deep to center field over the wall for a grand slam to give UCO a 6-0 lead at the time.

Chase Yarger got UCO out of the seventh inning before Tristan Wittau and Austin Burda closed the game with one inning of relief work each. Wittau struck out one batter and Burda two more, including the final out of the game, to give UCO eight Ks on the day.

Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with five RBIs. He also had an RBI single in the eighth. Ty Hammack also had two hits and scored two runs.

Drake Lee scored Gonzalez in the second inning. Gonzalez reached on an error and later scored on Lee's RBI groundout to shortstop to make it 1-0 UCO.

In the third, with the bases loaded, Joe Ricchio was hit by a pitch in the face. He exited the game, but Aiden Proctor scored on the play to give UCO a 2-0 lead, then Gonzalez pelted the grand slam to make it 6-0.

Davan Brady scored to make it 7-0 in the sixth when Ty Chapman reached on an error. In the seventh, Brooks Miller scored Hammack with an RBI triple and he scored on Gonzalez's single after that to make it 9-2.

Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western will close out the series Saturday. The 2025 MIAA Baseball Championship begins next week in Joplin, Missouri.
