Derrick Thompson Named Finalist For Coach of the Year Award

Central Oklahoma Head Men's Golf Coach Leads Team To Nationals Next Week

NORMAN, Okla. – Central Oklahoma head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson was named a finalist for the 2025 Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of American.

The Williams Award honors the national coach of the year in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NJCAA Division I, and NJCAA Division II men's golf.

Thompson was also a finalist last season.

Central Oklahoma has won seven tournaments this season with three more runner-up finishes. The Bronchos have played 11, finishing eighth in the only tournament Central didn't get first or second and that tournament was cut short due to weather.

Thompson coached the MIAA Men's Golfer of the Year in Bennett Baldwin. He along with Baylor Bostick, Nick Canales, and Jordan Wilson, all earned All-MIAA honors and were also each named to the GCAA's All-Region Team announced earlier this week.

Central Oklahoma heads to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida next week for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship. The Bronchos will play 54 holes of stroke play Monday through Wednesday and the top eight teams (of 20) will advance to match play Thursday.
