Central Beats Fort Smith In Game 2

Bronchos Win 8-4 To Clinch MIAA Series Win Over New Member Lions

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma beat Arkansas Fort Smith 8-4 Saturday afternoon to clinch another MIAA series and push its win streak to 11 games.

The Bronchos improved to 27-8 on the season with the win and are now 17-6 in the MIAA. UAFS is 10-23 on the year and 5-18 in league play. Game 3 of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.

Central Oklahoma got another dominant pitching performance from its starting rotation and plenty of run support from the offense to take Game 2 Saturday. Danny Satterlee threw 6.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits. He struck out two batters and improved to 3-3 on the season with the win.

Brady Gilmore, Preston Giltner, and Valek Cisneros all threw one inning of relief work. The trio gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits. Each had one strikeout.

Central Oklahoma got started with a second-inning rally. Joe Ricchio hit a one-out double to left center and Carson Carpenter followed with an RBI single up the middle. After Drake Lee reached on a fielder's choice, Aiden Proctor doubled down the right field line to put two in scoring position for Grant Randall. He got a pitch out to left field for an RBI single. Lee scored before an error on the left fielder allowed Proctor to score as well and give UCO a 3-0 lead.

Ty Hammack led off the third inning with a double to right field, starting another rally. Orlando Gonzalez followed with a triple down the left field line. He would score two pitches later on a wild pitch and UCO led 5-0.

Fort Smith got its first run and the only one of Satterlee with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. The leadoff reached on a throwing error before Satterlee hit the next batter. Another throwing error loaded the bases and then UAFS got a fly ball out to right field to allow one run to score.

The Bronchos got two more in the seventh. Ricchio's RBI single scored Caden Robertson, and then Gonzalez scored on a double steal with Ricchio. Fort Smith got another run in the seventh, also unearned, to make it 7-2 with two innings left. The Lions rallied in the eighth, scoring two off Giltner to make it 7-4, then Gonzalez scored Robertson in the ninth to make it the final, 8-4.

Central Oklahoma plays Fort Smith Sunday at 1 p.m. to wrap up the three-game MIAA series. The Bronchos are scheduled to visit Northeastern State Wednesday in Tahlequah before heading to Central Missouri next weekend.
