Central Oklahoma Wins Postseason Opener

Bronchos Beat Emporia State 73-60 In MIAA Basketball Championship First Round

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma came out firing in the 2025 MIAA Basketball Championships and earned a 73-60 victory over Emporia State in the first round of the tournament at historical Municipal Auditorium.

Israel Hart led all scorers with 27 points as UCO made 52.4 percent of its 3-point attempts, going 11-for-21 from behind the arc.

"We did a good job of getting everyone involved today," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "Izzy was great, but so was everyone else. Today was a good team win for us. Now we need to do it again tomorrow."

Central Oklahoma advances to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Basketball Championship and will face No. 1 seed Washburn Thursday at noon. The winner advances to the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game set for Sunday.

UCO was in control of Wednesday's game but Emporia wasn't going away. The game was 25-23 coming out of the under-8 media timeout. However, that's when Central took over. The Bronchos ended the first half on a 20-2 run over the span of more than seven minutes. Emporia only managed two free-throws in the game. UCO led 45-25 at halftime.

Hart scored 27 points on 9 of 16 shots, including a 4-for-5 mark from behind the 3-point line. Hart was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. He also had seven rebounds and five assists.

Jordan Thompson also scored in double figures, putting up 13 points on 4 of 5 shooting. He hit all three of his 3-point attempts and both free-throws.

JV Seat added nine points, Luke Haasl scored seven, and Jacobi Sebock scored two to round out the scoring for the starting five. Matthew Willenborg and Ben Averitt both scored six points and Parker Hannah scored three points off the UCO bench.

Central Oklahoma and Washburn met once this season, with WU winning 93-72 in Topeka. UCO is 1-1 against Washburn in the MIAA Basketball Championship, beating them in the 2013 quarterfinals, 99-88, and falling to them in the 2022 semifinals, 79-65.
