Shelby Beard, Rylee Lemos Earn MIAA Honors

Central Oklahoma Duo Led No. 13 Bronchos To 5-1 Week In Kansas Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma swept the MIAA weekly softball awards with Shelby Beard earning Pitcher of the Week and Rylee Lemos Hitter of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Central Oklahoma, ranked No. 13 in the country with a 14-3 record this season, went 5-1 at the Washburn Invitational Sunday – Tuesday in Topeka.
 
Beard, a sophomore from Dickson, Oklahoma, led Central with three wins in the circle in three appearances – all starts – and boasted an incredible 0.44 ERA. Beard threw 16.0 innings, including one complete game, and struck out 17 batters on the week. She allowed 10 hits and just one run.
 
Beard threw 4.0 innings in run-rule win over Missouri S&T, striking out five batters. She threw a complete game against Wayne State and struck out five more. Against Maryville, Beard threw 5.0 innings in a six-inning run-rule and struck out seven batters.
 
The sophomore is now 8-0 on the season with a 0.45 ERA to lead the Bronchos.
 
Lemos led Central with exceptional play at the plate. She hit .619 for the week, going 13-for-21 with four home runs, three doubles, one triple, 10 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Lemos had a 1.429 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage, getting one walk for the week.
 
Lemos was also 3-for-3 on stolen bases. She had a hit in all six games this week and had multiple hits in 4 of 6 games. Lemos capped off the week going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double, and five RBIs against Maryville.
 
Lemos leads the MIAA in hits (25), home runs (six), runs scored (28), triples (two), and total bases (52) as the first month of the season wraps up.
 
Central Oklahoma has one more tournament on its schedule, this weekend in Branson, Mo. UCO is playing Truman State and Missouri S&T Friday before facing Lincoln and Winona State Saturday.
 
The Bronchos return home and open MIAA play next weekend. UCO hosts Pittsburg State March 7 and Missouri Southern March 8 in a pair of MIAA doubleheaders at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.
