Bronchos Fall At Rogers State

Central Oklahoma Outpaced By Hillcats In Claremore

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma couldn't keep pace with Rogers State on Saturday afternoon and the Bronchos suffered a 102-92 setback to the Hillcats in MIAA play.

In a game that featured five ties and six lead changes, a late rally in the first half by the hosts ended up being the difference at the final buzzer.

UCO led 33-30 before a 12-0 gave RSU a big lead. Rogers led 44-34 at halftime. The Bronchos got it to seven points on three different occasions in the second half, but never closer.

"We couldn't get the stops we needed, and we couldn't get the shots we needed either," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We knew it was going to be tough and it was going to take all of us for 40 minutes, but we didn't get that today."

UCO is now 14-10 on the season overall and 8-7 in the MIAA.

Saturday's game consisted of 56 fouls and 73 free-throw attempts. Rogers had two players foul out and three more carry four fouls. Jacobi Sebock fouled out for the Bronchos, with a second technical foul disqualifying him from the game, and three others had four fouls as well. Sebock scored 12 points in 15 minutes.

Jordan Thompson and JV Seat led UCO with 15 points each. Both made four shots, Seat hit two 3-pointers and Thompson one. Thompson made all six of his free-throw attempts and Seat made 5 of 6.

Ben Averitt and Parker Hannah both scored 11 points off the bench. Matthew Willenborg added eight points, and Israel Hart and Luke Haasl scored seven each. Preston Aymond (three), Connor Newton (two), and Jack Robinson (one) also scored.

Central Oklahoma shot 45.8 percent from the floor on Saturday, making 27 of 59 shots. The Bronchos were 8-for-22 from behind the 3-point line, and 30-for-37 at the free-throw line. Rogers State went 31-for-36 at the free-throw line.

Central Oklahoma is now in a four-way tie for fifth place in the MIAA standings. The MIAA is using KPI (Key Performance Index) as a metric for determining the 10-team field for the MIAA Basketball Championship next month in Kansas City. UCO was eighth in KPI last week.
