UCO Drops Second Game In Classic

Bronchos Lose 8-4 To Metro State Denver To Fall To 0-2 On Opening Weekend

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma lost its second straight game to open the 2025 regular season with a 8-4 loss to Metro State University – Denver Saturday afternoon in the Edmond First Pitch Classic at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO (0-2) will play Southeastern Oklahoma State (0-1) on Sunday night before wrapping up the opening weekend festival against East Central (0-1) Monday evening.

"Today was similar to Friday, we had a chance, but we couldn't get it done," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We're in the games, but we have to figure out how to win and how to win quick. Being able to take advantage of those opportunities is the difference in the first two games."

Central Oklahoma never led on Saturday. The Bronchos trailed 2-0 after two innings, and 3-0 after three. UCO got two back in the fifth on a two-RBI double from Ty Hammack, but MSU pushed its lead to 4-2 with another run in the sixth.

The seventh inning alone matched the previous six. MSU put pu four runs in the top half to take a commanding 8-2 lead. Hammack had a two-RBI single in the seventh to get it to 8-4.

Hammack went 2-for-5 with the four RBIs. Grant Randall, Garrett Casey, Ty Chapman, Drake Lee, and Aiden Proctor all had one each. Randall, Casey, and Chapman joined Hammack with a double in the game.

Danny Satterlee made his UCO debut starting Saturday's game. The right-handed sophomore from Cowley County threw 4.0 innings and struck out five batters. He gave up three runs on four hits and two walks.

Michael Lopez (1.1), Brody Berlowitz (0.2), Brayden Thompson (0.1), and Brett McComas (0.2) all followed out of the bullpen. Gage Norvell made an appearance but gave up a hit to the only batter he faced. Dillon Dibrell (2.0) finished the game.

Dibrell had four strikeouts and Thompson and McComas both had one.

Southeastern Oklahoma State made its season debut Saturday and lost 8-5 against Emporia State. UCO and SOSU meet Sunday night at 6:30 p.m.
