Josh Taylor Named MIAA Wrestler of the Week

Central Oklahoma Junior Earned Win Over Ranked Opponent At 141 Pounds

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma junior 141-pounder Josh Taylor was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Taylor, from Skiatook, Oklahoma, led No. 7 Central Oklahoma to a dominating 33-3 win over No. 11 McKendree in the 2025-26 home opener for the Bronchos. He upset the No. 6-ranked 141-pounder in the latest NWCA rankings, Ronan Schuelke, with an 8-2 decision in the dual.

The junior took Schuelke to his back for a big seven-point move midway through the first period, and McKendree's two-time All-American couldn't recover. Schuelke escaped later in the opening stanza and got loose again in the second to make it 7-2, but Taylor escaped early in the third to go up 8-2 and coasted to the win in the final period.

Taylor is 2-0 early in the 2025-26 season. He won 2-1 at Augustana with an overtime victory before Saturday's win against McKendree.

Central Oklahoma won 9 of 10 matches on Saturday to cruise to the win over McKendree and improve to 3-1 on the young season. The Bronchos are off for Thanksgiving and will return with another home dual against Newman on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Hamilton Field House. UCO is already 1-0 in the MIAA and has won 27 consecutive league matches. The  Bronchos look to continue that trend next Wednesday.
