Central Oklahoma Goes 1-2 On Canada Trip

Bronchos Fall 69-63 To Western Washington Sunday

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Central Oklahoma let its final game of the D2CCA Canadian Tipoff Classic slip away in the final moments as the Bronchos lost 69-63 to Western Washington Sunday afternoon.

UCO is 1-2 in the new season following the weekend festival north of the border.

"We didn't play a great game overall and they took advantage of their opportunities," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We did some things better today than we did on the weekend but didn't put it all together. We still need to figure some things out take the good from here to move forward."

Central Oklahoma trailed nearly the entire first half, including by as many as 11 points. The Bronchos battled back and took the lead on a few different occasions in the second half, but a late rally by Western Washington was too much to overcome.

And Matthew Willenborg also scored in double figures, putting up 10 points with a team-high 10 rebounds and he also had three steals and a block.

The first half only saw the teams exchange the lead midway through but Western Washington controlled most of the half. WWU led 9-2 early before the Bronchos went on a 7-0 run. UCO went on another 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 20-19, but WWU answered right back with a 3-pointer to go back in front and stayed there through halftime.

UCO shot 39.3 percent in the opening half and trailed 35-30 at the break.

The Bronchos regained the lead 44-43 just over five minutes into the second half and the game bounced back and forth for the next few minutes.

Nwankwo tied the game 51-51, then Parker Hannah hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give UCO a 57-51 lead with 8:23 remaining.
