UCO Opens Home Slate With Double Digit Win

Bronchos Beat Southwestern 67-51 In Hamilton Opener

EDMOND – A big rally to start the second half propelled Central Oklahoma to a 67-51 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State Wednesday night in the home opener at Hamilton Field House.

UCO improved to 4-2 on the season with the non-conference win, its third in a row. The Bronchos opened the season with five games away from home and will hit the road for a matchup at West Texas on Saturday.

"It was good to be home and we had a great crowd and the guys played really well," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We didn't take care of the ball in the first half but we were able to get in front, and then that burst to start the second half was big for us. Proud of the guys for the way they stuck with it tonight."

Marcus Zeigler Jr.'s layup at the halftime buzzer gave UCO a 27-23 lead going into the break, then the Bronchos opened the second half on a 10-4 run over the first five minutes to open the game up. UCO's defense forced four turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 1-for-5 shooting during that stretch.

The Bronchos added a 6-0 run midway through the second half and then an 8-0 run later to get the lead up to 18 points.

Jacobi Sebock led the Bronchos with 20 points on 10 of 15 shooting and he had seven rebounds to go with an assist and a steal. Zeigler scored 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 mark at the free-throw line. Matthew Willenborg made it three in double figures, scoring 11 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Josh Nwankwo chipped in a well-rounded night, scoring eight points to go with seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Parker Hannah added five points and Trey Tuck scored four.

Central Oklahoma shot 52.9 percent overall, making 27 of 51 shots, and went 3-for-11 from behind the 3-point line. The Bronchos were 10-for-12 at the free-throw line, an 83.3 percent mark.

UCO visits West Texas on Saturday. The Bronchos and the Buffaloes of Canyon, Texas are both receiving votes in the NABC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
