Central Oklahoma Ties Mo. West

Broncho Defense Records Season's Fourth Shutout

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma's offensive struggles continued Sunday but another great defensive effort helped the Bronchos earn a 0-0 draw at Missouri Western in MIAA play.

UCO is now 2-4-4 on the season and 0-2-2 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have not scored a goal in conference play.

"Our offense just isn't clicking right now and we're to the point in the season that has to change immediately," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "In the last few games, we've had chances but didn't make the most of them. But today we didn't really get many chances. We need to change that because our defense is playing really well to help us out."

Central Oklahoma only took four shots in Sunday's game and put two on goal. Emma Nicholas had two shots, one on goal, in the first 10 minutes. But it wasn't the second half when Rebecca Tweedy took a third shot and did put it on goal. Adria Ramirez had the fourth and final shot by the Bronchos in the 62nd minute and it was blocked.

Avery Bass played all 90 in goal for the Bronchos and recorded yet another shutout. She made six saves on the day. A senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Bass has recorded 16 shutouts during her career. She's also now made 173 career saves and ranks fifth in school history. Bass needs just four saves to reach fourth on that list and eight saves to reach third place. She is 27 shy of becoming the second player to ever record 200 saves at UCO.

Central Oklahoma continues a four-game road swing next week with a trip to Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney. The Bronchos return home Oct. 17 to host No. 10 Central Missouri. UCO has eight games left in the regular season and alternates home and away every two matches for the next four weeks.
