Central Oklahoma Beats Fort Hays State

Bronchos End Rare Scoreless Drought With 2-0 MIAA Road Win

HAYS, Kan. – Central Oklahoma snapped a rare scoreless streak and got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory at Fort Hays State Friday night.

The Bronchos earned their first MIAA win, improving to 1-2-2 after two and a half weeks of league play. UCO is 3-4-4 overall on the season. Friday night also marked the first goals for the Bronchos in MIAA play, ending a near 400-minute scoreless streak.

"We knew we could do it they just haven't been going in until tonight," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Our defense always gives us a chance and they offense finally cracked the code and got us a lead. It was a relief and good to get the conference victory."

Caleah Carter ended the drought with a goal in the 18th minute of the game. She scored on an assist from Rebekah George. Not long after, Jordan Tanges scored again, on an assist from Carter, and Central Oklahoma had its 2-0 lead.

The Avery Bass led UCO defense had it from there. Fort Hays State took 10 shots in the game on Friday, equal to that of the Bronchos, but Hays only managed one shot on goal and Bass saved that attempt.

Carter led UCO with four shots in the game and put three on target. Emma Fioretti took three shots and put one on goal. George took one shot in the match. Tanges' goal was the only shot she took in 28 minutes of play. Evelyn Sydnes had one shot to give UCO 10 in the match.

Central Oklahoma wraps up a four-game road trip on Sunday at Nebraska Kearney. The Bronchos return home next week to take on No. 9 Central Missouri and Missouri Southern in a pair of home MIAA contests.
