Central Oklahoma Wins 3-0 In MIAA Road Matchup In Nebraska

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma earned its second MIAA win of the weekend with a 3-0 shutout at Nebraska Kearney Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Jane Lockhart scored twice and Rebecca Tweedy added another goal as Avery Bass recorded yet another shutout to give UCO the win. The Bronchos improved to 4-4-4 on the season and 2-2-2 in the MIAA.

"We played really well this weekend and it was good to get a couple of wins," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "Our defense was really good and we needed it and our offense finally got it going. It was a good weekend and we need to take this momentum and move it forward."

Lockhart gave UCO a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute with a goal. She got a pass from Rebekah George on the right side of the box, dribble in and took a shot, and it deflected off a Kearney defender and into the goal for the score.

Tweedy made it 2-0 in the 39th minute. Kaitlyn Cotton sent a free kick into the box and the senior Tweedy headed it back into the goal for the score.

In the 60th minute, Lockhart took a free kick from 23 yards out and put it directly into the back of the net for the score that made it 3-0.

Bass recorded her sixth shutout of the season. In the 62nd minute, a UNK penalty shot put it in jeopardy but the Broncho senior goalkeeper in the top five career saves at Central, knocked away the PK to keep the clean sheet. Bass now has 18 shutouts in her career and made five saves in the game on Sunday.

UCO outshot Kearney 20-8 overall and had a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma returns home after a four-game road swing. The Bronchos will host No. 9 Central Missouri on Friday night at Tom Thompson Field and is scheduled to host Missouri Southern next Sunday afternoon.
