Bronchos Blow By Kearney

Central Oklahoma Beat Nebraska Kearney 82-67 In MIAA Play Thursday In Edmond

EDMOND – Israel Hart's scorching first half sparked an 82-67 victory for Central Oklahoma Thursday night in MIAA play at Hamilton Field House.
 
Hart scored a career-high 30 points, with 24 coming in the first half. He was 9-for-10 at the break, going 4-for-5 from behind the 3-point line, and was a perfect 2-for-2 at the line. Hart finished the day 10-for-15 with the four 3-pointers and 6-for-6 at the line.
 
Central Oklahoma never trailed in the league contest. The game was tied once, at 2-2. Hart scored five of the next seven and set the tone early to give UCO a 9-2 lead.
 
The Bronchos outran the Lopers from there. Matthew Willenborg slammed home a dunk before Hart hit another 3-pointer. He added a layup and the free-throw to put UCO ahead 17-6 at the first media timeout.
 
Central led by as many as 15 points in the first half, when back-to-back buckets by Jordan Thompson gave the Bronchos a 41-26 lead with 4:54 remaining before halftime.
 
Central Oklahoma kept UNK at length for the entire second half. After a 47-39 lead at halftime, the Bronchos outscored the Lopers 35-28 in the second half.
 
Hart has six 20-point games this season, and now a 30-point game.
 
Thompson finished with 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting. He made 3 of 4 free-throws and added four assists, three rebounds and one steal.
 
Jacobi Sebock also scored in double figures, posting a dozen. He got 12 on 6 of 11 shooting and a game-high nine rebounds with one blocked shot.
 
All 14 available players got on the floor Thursday and six others scored.
 
Parker Hannah added seven points with one 3-pointer. JV Seat scored six points with three assists. Jarreth Ingram scored five points, Luke Haasl scored four points to go with five rebounds and three blocks. Caiden Punt added a late 3-pointer and Matthew Willenborg scored two points to go with six boards and two steals.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 49.2 percent as a team, making 31 of 63 shots. The Bronchos were 7-for-21 from behind the 3-point line and 13-for-18 at the free-throw line.
 
UCO returns to the court Saturday to host Fort Hays State. The Tigers of Hays, Kansas, receiving votes in this week's NABC Coaches' Poll, are 13-4 this season, 6-2 in the MIAA, and bring a four-game win streak to Edmond.
 
Central Oklahoma is hosting Alumni Day Saturday, with receptions for former players, coaches, trainers, and managers planned for both men's and women's games. The women play first at 1:30 p.m. and the men follow at 3:30 p.m.
