Central Oklahoma Returns With Rout

Bronchos Beat Williams Baptist 87-50 In First Game Of New Year

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returned from winter break with an 87-50 victory over Williams Baptist Thursday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO improved to 7-5 on the season with the win. Head coach Bob Hoffman did not coach the game Thursday as he was home ill. Assistant coach Matthew Mossman stepped in to lead the program to the win.

"Proud of the guys for their effort today," Mossman said. "Wish all the well to coach Hoffman and we're looking forward to him being back this weekend. The guys were great today. To have a week off without practice you need a day like this for them to get going again because it's all MIAA games from here."

The Bronchos are 7-5 after their third consecutive win. It was the first time UCO and Williams Baptist (Walnut Ridge, Arkansas) have met on the hardwood. It wasn't much of a fight from the beginning.

Jacobi Sebock opened the game with a layup of an assist from Luke Haasl, then WBU's Eli Cofield scored to tie the game, 2-2. In 96 seconds, tie game. But then it was 12-3, and suddenly 24-6 after that.

UCO's 10-1 run last 2:27. It started with a pair of Sebock free-throws, then JV Seat hit a jumper and a 3-pointer. After a free-throw from Williams Baptist, Sebock slammed home an alley-oop from Thompson to make it 12-3 before the first media timeout.

The guests hit a 3-pointer with 13:00 minutes to play to end the first run, then Central Oklahoma responded with a 12-0 run.

Thompson made a layup and-1, Matthew Willenborg did the same, then hit a jumper. Ben Averitt scored back-to-back buckets after that and Central Oklahoma built its 24-6 lead with 10:31 to play in the first half.

Central Oklahoma took a 34-20 lead into halftime. The Bronchos had runs of 11-2 and 9-2, twice, in the second half as Central pulled away for the big win.

Cofield led all scorers with 16 points and he had 16 rebounds too in 32 minutes of play for Williams Baptist.

A dozen players scored for UCO, all but one that played in the game. Central Oklahoma shot 44.0 percent on Thursday. The Bronchos hit 7 of 29 3-point shots and 14 of 20 free-throws.

Seat led the Bronchos with 15 points, Sebock added 13, and Thompson finished with 10. Seat was 5-for-12 with a pair of 3-pointers and three free-throws. Sebock was 5-for-9 and had five rebounds and three blocks. And Thompson was 3-for-10, but had five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

Preston Aymond made his season debut Thursday. The senior forward and grad student played 12 minutes in his first game since Feb. 1, 2024. In his fourth year with the Bronchos, Aymond played in a team-high 83 games entering this season.

On Thursday, he entered midway through the second half and played the remainder of the game. He missed on a 3-point attempt but was fouled going to the basket for a layup and went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line, finishing with two points. His presence was felt in the paint as he pulled down four rebounds. He also dished out two assists and had one steal.
